"I paint self-portraits because I am the person I know best." Frida Kahlo
Looking in the mirror will you draw what you see or what you want to see? We will spend 4 Tuesday evenings drawing the self-portrait from life. Proportion, values, line quality and gesture help you get a likeness while simple materials such as charcoal and a limited color palette of black, red, and white frees you up to focus on drawing and expression. Contemporary portraiture will be our inspiration. $160 plus materials list upon registration.

Nuraida is a social worker from Indonesia who was learning English in Northampton, Massachusetts when
I met her . She is currently studying for her masters degree on a grant at the International School in Vermont.
Her goal is to: "return to Indonesia and continue...working with both conflict affected and disaster
affected communities..."
Nuraida wants to empower
people in these communities to help themselves and to write a book on community development.

$mall Works: Art + Object
Location: Ferrin Gallery, Pittsfield, MA
Event Dates: 11/29/2008 -
1/10/2009
Reception: • 6:30-8:00
If you haven't been out to Pittsfield yet to explore the art scene there, here is an excuse to go. The $mall Works show at the Ferrin Gallery is a collection of fun art under $500. I have 3 pieces from my "Toys in the Attic" series in the show.
Some good places to eat near the gallery are: The Lantern (an old time bar and grill known for its hamburgers), Jae's (Asian fusion in a snazzily renovated building), Brix (a cozy bistro with a great wine list) and Mission (a tapas restaurant and bar). My favorite vintage clothing store called "Greystone Gardens" is across the street from the Ferrin Gallery. When you stop by the gallery say "hi" to Leslie Ferrin and Donald Clark who used to have the wonderful former Pinch Pottery store in Northampton.
